Down in the dark, dank, moldy and odoriferous labyrinth of the city sewer the five remaining members of Gravy’s gang huddled closely in absolute silence and listened intently for any sign of the beast that had been hunting them. The relentless dripping of water or whatever it was that coated the ceiling falling in to the muck below and their own breathing was all that could be discerned.
Drip, drip, drip…
Gravy the gang’s namesake leader held his right index finger vertically before his lips, keeping his followers silent. In his left hand he held a fading green glow tube which emitted very little light, but it was the last and only light source
the group possessed. The eerie glow cast a sickly ambiance around the closely grouped survivors. Wanda and Dee, the two women in the group were snuggled in close to Gravy one on each side. Jerry and Rasheed were facing out away from the group, the former facing the direction they had just ran from and the latter in the only other direction that was available to them. Both henchmen were heavily armed and poised to attack anything that moved beyond their perimeter.
Four days ago Gravy led a dozen members of his gang down into the sewers to carry out a surprise attack on some Coalition Forces that the gang had accidently stumbled upon. At the time Gravy commended Davis for coming up with the tactical idea to use the sewers to come up from below, inside the military base and catch them unawares. Davis was the first to die at the tentacles, claws and teeth of the behemoth that now hunted them like animals. In the confusion of that initial attack, the group scattered in different directions. The group with Gravy listened in shocked horror as one by one the other half of the gang was devoured by the beast and all the while they ran in the opposite direction. Over the next few days the Gravy Gang members were whittled down by the mutated monstrosity that plagued their escape. Gravy was determined to lead his people to safety; but at the moment they were knee deep, out of food and with only one direction left to travel and somewhere out in the darkness the beast lurked.
